Kensico Cemetery (1889 - 1899)
"Kensico Cemetery has experienced another year of history in which it has been increasingly demonstrated its necessity to the metropolis...it is destined to become New York's Great City of the Dead. Its accessibility from all parts of the enlarged city is a potent argument in its favor. All local lines of transportation center at the magnificent Grand Central Station on 42nd Street from which the journey to Kensico Cemetery can be made in about 40 minutes. Another feature of Kensico Cemetery is the certainty that it will not be encroached upon by the growth of the city. This assurance must be comforting to all lot owners. When the bereaved tenderly and weepingly put away dear departed friends, there need be no fear that the remains will ever be disturbed either by civic growth or sacrilege. The rights of the dead are permanently protected at Kensico. Those who are interred there will sleep in peace awaiting the dawn of the glorious day when death itself shall pass away, and there shall be reunion on the shore of that eternal sea where those who meet shall part no more."
